Journey Down a Hallway
Take a journey down the hallway of starting your business and explore the many doors of opportunity that you can unlock.
Trying to start and build a business is very difficult. What kind of business do you want to run, an e-commerce, blog, retail store, etc... There are many options, many niches, and many people competing with you.
I relate starting a business as a Journey Down a Hallway. Lets begin our journey down a hallway and I will be your guide.
Open the Main Door
Picture yourself in an empty room with only one door to open. The door is the start of your business venture. Many people walk by the door. They are intrigued by it, by the sounds, by the glow of success that beams around it, but they never have the courage to open it. Before you can enter the main hallway you must open the door to get in and begin your journey.
Enter the Hallway
You did it! You began your journey and did what many people want to do but never do, take action. You opened the door and entered the main hallway that you will journey down.
Be warned, this hallway is never ending. There are no turns or bends in this hallway. It is perfectly linear with more doors (opportunities) on each side. You may think this hallway has an end, but it doesn't. The hallway is easy to walk down and easy to find yourself continuously walking, gazing at the marvels of the doors.
About the Doors
Each door down the hallway is an opportunity, a business venture. They were built by other people who set out to build their business. You see doors to every business ever created. Doors to the finance world, oil drilling, medicine, automotive, etc... You name the field, there's a door leading to it.
Behind each door is another hallway with many other doors. All the doors down each sub-hallway lead to further hallways. Every door you go through and every hallway you go down the less doors there will be.
Most of the doors down the main hallway are old. They have existed since the first business was created. Every time a new business field is created, a new door to that field is created, thus a door to another hallway. The older the door is, the more hallways there will be because of the many people that came and built new doors. That is why it is difficult to enter a well established industry.
Each hallway and door is a level of difficulty which gets easier the further your advance. The reason things get easier is because as you advance through each door and go down each hallway, your experience increases. You learn which doors are right for you. You gain the experience, like a tribesman knowing his way through the Amazon, you will know your way to the door you built.
Pick a Door
Just like opening the main door, you must pick a door down the main hallway. If you know what you want to endeavor on, then go for that door. If not, pick a door and go in. You will find the door you like if you keep opening them. Be warned though, if you don't know what you want to do, then the chances of you failing greatly increase. There are too many doors to go through and see. If you don't stay focused you will find yourself wandering, lost in a hallway.
Lost in a Hallway
It is easy to get lost in a hallway when you are on your journey. Hopefully, you know what area you want to embark down. If you don't, you find yourself wandering aimlessly down the hallway, afraid to open any of the doors because they look too difficult, not appealing, or you feel not worthy of entering.
Building Your Own Door
Eventually you will journey through many hallways and find a hallway that doesn't have a door that fits your business need.
Congratulations, you finally did it! This is where you will build your business. When you create your business, you are creating a door for other people to follow. Eventually you will have created a door that leads the next person to follow down your hallway to success. Your hard work paved the way.
